This is How to Do Unimog Snowploughs
A second square cab AV Unimog was added to our customer’s collection recently so now he has a U1300 and a U1450. You can see both mogs standing proud displaying two different snow ploughs which are fitted in winter. One has a straight angle blade which is ex-council (right), and the other has a new Cuthbertson hydraulic Vee plough. This can be used as a straight blade or with both wings fully forward, as a reverse V-shape to effectively move snow out of the way.
Both mogs are fitted with AV intercoolers which give close to 220HP. The U1450 also has an overdrive gearbox fitted which increases top speed by about 20%. A recent 964 mile round trip in 36 hours was relaxed and smooth with the mog comfortably cruising along at 60MPH with more left for acceleration when it was needed. The mog is registered as a “special vehicle” which means it is allowed on the motorway, and weighing less than 7.5 tonnes, is not restricted to the lower speed limit.
The U1450 is also being converted to run using LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) to increase power, fuel economy and efficiency. This results in lower emissions and the oil staying cleaner so the mog will be greener too! Maybe worth considering for our customers in the low emissions zone…
