Atkinson Vos Expedition Vehicles

Let Atkinson Vos take the worry out of building your Expedition Vehicle

For over four decades we’ve supported the Unimog expedition market — supplying base vehicles, developing reliable accessories, and carrying out essential servicing and repairs in our fully equipped workshop. In recent years, we’ve expanded our capabilities to include purpose-built subframes and high-quality composite habitation boxes, giving you a complete, well engineered foundation for your build.

Everything we produce is designed with the same philosophy as the Unimogs we work with: robust, practical, and proven through real-world experience.

Your expedition vehicle starts here — engineered for adventure and built to go anywhere.

TORSION FREE SUBFRAMES

TORSION FREE SUBFRAMES

A strong, reliable subframe is the foundation of any expedition vehicle—and ours are the best in the business. Developed through years of real-world experience and computer simulations, our subframes are designed to protect your habitation box while preserving the Unimog’s legendary off-road performance.

Key Features:

4-point torsion-free mounting – Preserves full chassis articulation for extreme off-road capability without transmitting damaging stresses to the camper box.

Optimized support for composite habitation boxes – No need for heavy metal framing inside the camper box.

Galvanized or stainless-steel options – High yield strength steel with corrosion resistance for all environments

Cold-bridge elimination – Our exclusive mounting system prevents cold spots which can cause damp.

Using the original Mercedes mounting points, we employ a 4-point torsion-free system that eliminates excessive stress on the habitation box, preventing damage from chassis articulation and ensuring a longer lifespan. This allows the chassis to flex as Mercedes intended while keeping your living space secure. The design also enables the integration of a pass through, providing easy access between the cab and habitation box.

Our subframes are built to fully support our composite habitation boxes without the need for any internal metal framework. Additionally, the lightweight design lowers the vehicle’s centre of gravity, improving on-road handling and reducing body roll in extreme off-road conditions.

For those seeking the ultimate in durability, we also offer a premium stainless steel subframe option. Designed to withstand the harshest environments, it offers unparalleled resistance to corrosion, ensuring your vehicle remains expedition-ready for years to come.

Our expertly designed and fabricated subframes offer complete peace of mind—wherever the road takes you.

COMPOSITE HABITATION BOXES

COMPOSITE HABITATION BOXES

Your expedition vehicle’s habitation box is more than just a structure—it’s your home on the road. That’s why we’ve engineered our composite habitation boxes to withstand the toughest environments while keeping you comfortable, no matter where your adventures take you.

Key Features:

GRP & XPS foam construction – No metal frames, reducing weight and eliminating cold bridging

Strong - Woven GRP exterior to withstand impact damage

Superior insulation – 64mm walls and 84mm floor panels

Lightweight - Composite box just 400kg on average

CNC machined apertures – accurate fitting of windows, doors & hatches.

We don't carry out internal fitouts ourselves, but we will work with yourself or your fitter to locate the apertures in the optimal locations.

Our high-strength composite GRP and XPS foam panels are completely free from metal framing, eliminating cold bridges and maximizing insulation. This keeps the interior warm in winter, cool in summer, and free from condensation buildup—crucial for long-term off-grid travel.

Unlike standard composite panels, our design has been specifically optimised for expedition vehicles, ensuring unmatched durability in extreme conditions. The woven GRP inner and outer skins provide superior impact resistance, protecting your vehicle from the inevitable knocks and scrapes of overland travel. Meanwhile, our staggered dual-layer XPS foam core eliminates weak and cold points, offering exceptional structural integrity and thermal efficiency.

Our walls are 64mm thick, with an 84mm reinforced floor, striking the perfect balance between insulation, strength, and weight.

With our habitation boxes, you get the best of all worlds: lightweight strength, exceptional insulation, and the rugged durability needed for serious adventure.

The connection to the subframe is achieved using innovative GRP bolts with recessed spreader plates, minimizing intrusion into your living space. These bolts conduct heat 100 times less than steel, ensuring a completely cold-bridge-free structure—something metal-framed alternatives simply can’t offer whilst providing a strong connection.

WINDOWS, DOORS & HATCHES

We recommend Outbound windows, doors and hatches. Their products not only look great but are thoughtfully designed and well-engineered too.

The windows feature double glazed tempered glass. All products have a robust GRP (fibreglass) frame which prevents cold bridging.

They offer the best ratio of quality to price on the market and coupled with their wide range of products this makes them the number one choice for a quality expedition vehicle build.
