Motorway Maintenance Mowing Mog
This U1450 was sold recently fitted with an Epoke mowing arm with a 1200mm grass cutting head. The mog will take up residence in Northern Ireland and join a new owner company which has won a contract to provide vehicles, manpower and management for motorway maintenance. Keen to find a more efficient solution than the traditional methods used which are labour intensive, costly and potentially dangerous, the Unimog joins a large mixed fleet of vehicles which have decades of experience doing municipal environmental jobs.
A typical operation would involve the use of tractor mounted grass cutters, a three strong team of strimmers and three preceding warning vehicles but the addition of the Unimog helps to condense this down into an all-in-one vehicle.
Shown here as it left the AV forecourt and then hard at work at night with its lights guiding the way, the mog has been fined-tuned to ensure it meets the requirements of the job. It is taxed and tested as a lorry so can drive at full road speed to the worksite, meaning no low loader is needed to deliver it and the maximum time is spent working. The multi-purpose Unimog can also be used for other jobs all year round, so it is used not just when the grass grows.
