Doka Mog Soon to Be African Campermobile
This extra long wheelbase U1550L37 Unimog already had a 3.7m long chassis but this was extended at by us to suit its owner's requirements. He (on the left) wanted a standard U1300L rear body on the back of a DOKA Unimog (where the double cab normally takes up some of the space at the back). This required some special fabrications to the existing chassis as well as some adjustments to the wiring.
Also shown in the photo is our new Workshop Supervisor, Ian, who many of you will have now spoken to on the phone. The mog was fitted with an aluminium AV battery box and two extra large aluminium fuel tanks which will come into their own when the mog is travelling across Africa where fuel refills are harder to come by. The highly sought after double cab set up is essential for this job as the mog is a bit of a family affair and will be transporting husband, wife and two young children on its travels. The addition of a soundproofing kit will help keep noise to a minimum and the heavy duty radiator and intercooler kit will optimise the driving experience.
The larger sized 395/85R20 tyres give the mog a good tall stead and being Michelin XZLs (considered to be the best all round Unimog tyres) we're sure the mog will fly! The Unimog will eventually be fitted with a camper body so we'll keep you posted with how the finished piece looks.
